The project consists of the rehabilitation of an existing building located along the urban frontage that completes Barreiro’s historic center, which was vacant and in an advanced state of deterioration. The project’s guiding principle was to recover and enhance the building’s structure and identity, adapting it to new two- and three-bedroom residential typologies and commercial spaces on the ground floor, through the minimum necessary interventions that improve the quality of the interior spaces.
The proposal organizes the residential spaces according to a more open and flexible logic, resulting from the selective demolition of non-structural walls, allowing for larger and more continuous rooms. The different areas are defined through the use of color and integrated design solutions, responding to contemporary ways of living.
