São Ciro Building

Rehabilitation and extension with a reinvented courtyard

View brochura

The rehabilitation and expansion project for the building on Rua de São Ciro, in the Lapa neighborhood, Lisbon, proposes a comprehensive reorganization of both interior and exterior spaces, together with the introduction of new infrastructure such as an elevator, underground parking, and activated rooftop terraces. These interventions improve the building’s functionality, accessibility, and overall quality of living, while preserving its architectural identity.

The complete redesign of the courtyard, through the introduction of underground parking and the freeing of the ground level for landscaped and leisure areas with gardens and a swimming pool, establishes a direct and open relationship between the residences and the outdoor space. At the request of the Municipality, the main façade was preserved in its essential characteristics, while the rear façade underwent more substantial transformations. The shared rooftop terrace on the top floor was converted into two private terraces for the upper duplex units, taking advantage of the views toward the dome of the Basílica da Estrela. The building now comprises 13 residential units of different typologies, resulting in a balanced intervention that combines urban enhancement, residential comfort, and respect for the existing built fabric.
