Located on one of the main avenues in this area of the city, Rua Rodrigo da Fonseca, the project consists of the rehabilitation and adaptation of the 6th floor of an existing building, previously occupied by office space, converting it into an independent five-bedroom residential unit. The intervention focuses on a unit that was added and extended in the 1970s, a later period than the rest of the building.
The single apartment was designed for a large family, with the main façade used for the social areas and principal bedrooms, taking advantage of the natural light and views afforded by its elevated position, through a balcony reclaimed from the exterior space. The more private and support areas, such as the children’s room, bathrooms, storage, and laundry, are organized toward the rear and internal areas. The apartment was designed around a central core, the wooden box, minimizing circulation space, which becomes almost nonexistent, and maximizing the usable area of the unit. The strategic introduction of glass doors allows natural light to remain present throughout the entire apartment, despite its 345 m² area.
