The project consists of the rehabilitation, alteration, and extension of the former Catapereiro warehouses, owned by Companhia das Lezírias, to accommodate the future Veterinary Hospital for Livestock Species of Universidade Lusófona. The intervention aims to strengthen the facilities of the institution’s Veterinary Medicine program, while also creating a reference facility to support animal production, the local community, and the surrounding region.
The proposal is based on adapting the existing buildings while preserving their constructive, architectural, and landscape identity, with most of the intervention focused on the interior to ensure suitability for the new functional program. New interior and exterior circulation systems are introduced, with separate access routes for vehicles, animals, and services, ensuring the proper operation of the hospital facility. The exterior interventions are restrained and naturalized in character, prioritizing the preservation of permeable areas and the surrounding landscape, in accordance with the applicable territorial and regulatory framework.
